eToro crypto lets you buy more than 150 cryptoassets and own the real coins on a non-leveraged buy. As of October 2026, eToro charges 1% when you open and 1% when you close a crypto position (lower volume-based rates from Platinum tier), no custody or overnight fee, and 2% (minimum $1, maximum $100) to move coins to its wallet.
The one condition that changes the picture is leverage: short and leveraged crypto trades are CFDs, so you own no coins and pay overnight fees. In the EU, eToro (Europe) Ltd has held a MiCA authorisation from CySEC since 16 January 2025.

CFDs are complex instruments and come with a high risk of losing money rapidly due to leverage. 51% of retail investor accounts lose money when trading CFDs with this provider. You should consider whether you understand how CFDs work, and whether you can afford to take the high risk of losing your money. Crypto investments are risky and may not suit retail investors; you could lose your entire investment. Understand the risks here. What Is eToro Crypto, and Do You Own the Coins?
eToro crypto is the cryptocurrency side of the eToro investment platform. When you open a non-leveraged buy, you own the underlying cryptoasset; leveraged positions and short sells are executed as contracts for difference (CFDs), which track the price without ownership.
eToro is a multi-asset trading and investing platform that lets you buy, sell, stake and transfer cryptocurrencies such as Bitcoin, Ethereum, Cardano and Dogecoin alongside stocks and ETFs. Older reviews, including earlier versions of this page, described eToro crypto as CFD-only. That is no longer accurate: according to the FAQ on eToro’s crypto page, a non-leveraged buy gives you the underlying coin, which you can hold, sell or transfer to the eToro Wallet if the asset is eligible.
Two exceptions matter. First, according to eToro’s fees page, short-selling and leveraged crypto positions are executed as CFDs, and “due to regulatory requirements, some non-leveraged BUY positions in crypto may be executed as CFDs”. Any CFD trade is marked “CFD” in the trade window, so check before you confirm. Second, ownership terms vary by product and jurisdiction, so the rules for your account depend on the eToro entity that serves your country.
- Real crypto (non-leveraged buy)
- A long position opened without leverage and backed by the actual coin. No custody or overnight fee; can be staked and, for eligible coins, transferred to the wallet.
- Crypto CFD
- A derivative that tracks the coin’s price. Used for leverage and short selling; no ownership, 1% per trade plus overnight fees.
- eToro Money crypto wallet
- eToro’s separate custodial wallet app for sending, receiving and holding supported coins outside the trading platform.
- Club tier
- eToro’s loyalty level (Bronze to Diamond), based on your cash balance or a paid subscription. Higher tiers get lower crypto fees and a bigger share of staking rewards.
- Staking intro days
- The waiting period before a newly bought coin starts earning staking rewards: 7 days for most coins, 9 for ADA.
Which Cryptocurrencies Can You Trade on eToro?
eToro offers more than 150 cryptoassets as of October 2026, including Bitcoin, Ethereum, Solana, XRP and Cardano. The exact list varies by region because of local regulation, so check the markets page in your own account before you plan a trade.
The count comes from eToro’s crypto page, which also notes that the up-to-date list lives on its crypto markets page. Popular coins include:
- Bitcoin (BTC): The first and best-known cryptocurrency, with the largest market capitalisation.
- Ethereum (ETH): The second-largest crypto, focused on smart contracts and decentralised applications.
- Dogecoin (DOGE): A meme-based cryptocurrency with a large community.
- Cardano (ADA): A research-driven proof-of-stake blockchain focused on security and scalability.
- Solana (SOL) and XRP: Two of the large-cap coins eToro names on its crypto page.
Not every coin supports every feature. The table below shows which popular coins can be staked and which can be moved to the eToro Money crypto wallet, based on eToro’s staking page and crypto transfer page.
Table 1: Popular coins on eToro: staking and wallet transfer (checked 2 October 2026)
| Cryptocurrency | Symbol | Staking on eToro | Transfer to eToro Money wallet |
|---|---|---|---|
| Bitcoin | BTC | No (proof of work) | Yes |
| Ethereum | ETH | Yes, separate opt-in | Yes |
| Solana | SOL | Yes | Yes |
| Cardano | ADA | Yes | Yes |
| XRP | XRP | No | Yes |
| Dogecoin | DOGE | No | Yes |
| Tron | TRX | Yes | Yes (not in the UAE) |
| Polygon Ecosystem (ex Matic) | POL | Yes | Yes |
| Polkadot | DOT | Yes | Not on transfer list |
| Cosmos | ATOM | Yes | Not on transfer list |

| Sui | SUI | Yes | Not on transfer list |
| Chainlink | LINK | No | Yes |
| Litecoin | LTC | No | Yes |

eToro’s transfer page listed 40 transferable assets on 2 October 2026. Some assets are excluded in specific regions (for example, a handful are not transferable for ASIC-regulated clients or not available in the UAE). Coin lists change, so treat this table as a snapshot and confirm on the asset page before you buy.

How Do You Fund Your eToro Account for Crypto?
You fund eToro with fiat money by card, bank transfer or a local payment method. The minimum first deposit varies by country from $10 to $10,000, and later deposits must be at least $50, or $500 by wire transfer.
If you don’t have an account yet, open one here.
Crypto investments are risky and may not suit retail investors; you could lose your entire investment. Understand the risks here
According to eToro’s deposit FAQ, the main options are debit and credit cards, bank transfer, the eToro Money account and local methods such as iDEAL in the Netherlands. Unverified accounts are limited to a total deposit of $2,250. Clients in the UK, EU and Australia can also hold a local currency account (GBP, EUR, DKK or AUD) and fund trades in that currency.
Crypto on eToro is priced in US dollars. If you deposit or trade from a different currency, a conversion fee applies; eToro says these conversion fees vary by location, payment method and Club level, so check the rate shown before you confirm.
To deposit money into your eToro account:
- Log in and choose “Deposit Funds”.
- Choose your payment method.
- Enter your details and the amount.
- Confirm the deposit and wait for it to appear in your balance.
Card and e-wallet deposits are usually credited quickly; eToro lists bank transfers at 4-7 business days.
How Do You Buy Crypto on eToro?
To buy crypto on eToro, search for the coin, open the trade window, enter an amount in dollars or units, check that the order is not marked “CFD”, and open the trade. A $1,000 Bitcoin buy costs a $10 fee at open.
Once you have money in your account, you can buy any cryptocurrency available in your region, from BTC and ETH to smaller altcoins. eToro also offers recurring buys from $25 a month, according to its crypto page.
- Search for the crypto you want to buy (for example “BTC” for Bitcoin).
- Open the asset page and click “Trade”.
- Enter the dollar amount or number of units. Leave leverage at 1x if you want to own the coin.
- Check the estimated cost and that the trade is not marked “CFD”.
- Click “Open Trade” to execute your order.
Example: You buy $1,000 of Bitcoin as a Bronze, Silver or Gold member. eToro charges 1% of the position, $10, when the position opens. The position then appears in your portfolio at the current market price. If you later close it at $1,000, another $10 applies.
If you want a simple long-term approach, our guide to spot crypto trading explains how buying the actual coin differs from derivatives. If you plan to bet on falling prices, read our guide to short selling crypto first: on eToro, every short is a CFD.
How Do You Sell or Close a Crypto Position on eToro?
You close a crypto position from your Portfolio: open the position, choose “Close” or “Sell”, pick the full or partial amount and confirm. The standard 1% crypto fee applies again on the value you close.
- Go to your Portfolio.
- Click the crypto you want to sell and select the position.
- Choose to close it, in full or in part.
- Review the estimated cost and confirm.
The proceeds return to your cash balance in USD (or your local currency account where available). For example, if $1,000 of Bitcoin grows to $1,500 and you sell, your gain is $500 before fees, and the closing fee is 1% of $1,500, or $15, for a Bronze, Silver or Gold member. Gains are usually taxable, so keep records (see the tax section below).
What Are eToro Crypto Fees?
eToro crypto fees are 1% of the position size when you open a crypto position and 1% again when you close it, so a $1,000 Bitcoin trade costs $10 at open and $10 at close. Custody and overnight fees on real crypto are free.
According to eToro’s fees page and its Help Centre article “How does eToro crypto pricing work?”, the fee is charged per position and shown separately from the market price, so your profit and loss reflects market moves. The market spread (the gap between bid and ask) is not an eToro charge but still affects your execution price. For a full breakdown of every eToro fee, see our eToro fees guide.

How Do the Club-Tier Crypto Rates Work?
The reduced rates depend on your eToro Club tier and your manual crypto trading volume in the calendar month. eToro calculates the fee at the end of each month; the first dollar above a range moves you into the next band (for example, $10,001 is in the second band).
Table 3: eToro crypto fee per position by Club tier and monthly volume (source: eToro fees page, as of October 2026)
| Monthly crypto volume | Bronze/Silver/Gold | Platinum | Platinum+ | Diamond |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| $0-$10K | 1.00% | 0.95% | 0.90% | 0.85% |
| $10K-$100K | 1.00% | 0.90% | 0.85% | 0.80% |
| $100K-$250K | 1.00% | 0.85% | 0.80% | 0.75% |
| $250K-$1M | 1.00% | 0.80% | 0.75% | 0.70% |
| $1M-$10M | 1.00% | 0.70% | 0.50% | 0.30% |
| $10M+ | 1.00% | 0.10% | 0.10% | 0.10% |
Your Club tier is based on the cash balance in your account or an active paid subscription. Below Platinum, there is no volume discount: a member trading $500,000 a month as Gold still pays 1% each way.
Do Copied Crypto Trades Cost More?
Copying on eToro is free, but each copied crypto position pays eToro’s standard 1% crypto fee when it is opened and again when it is closed; the lower Club-tier crypto rates apply only to manual crypto trades, not to CopyTrader or Smart Portfolios. The fees page says copy trading carries “no extra fees” and that the same spreads and overnight fees apply as with manual trades, and eToro’s Help Centre article on CopyTrader fees confirms crypto commissions are charged at the same rates as regular trading. The minimum to copy one trader is $200. Our guide to crypto copy trading explains how to choose traders.
What Do Crypto CFDs and Other Special Cases Cost?
- Crypto CFDs: 1% per trade at open and close, plus overnight fees for every night the position stays open. Non-leveraged crypto CFD positions opened by German clients do not incur overnight fees.
- Spain: since 2 August 2024, following CNMV guidance, new users from Spain cannot trade CFDs.
- LUNC: after Terra introduced a 0.2% tax burn, eToro adds a 0.1% operational fee to the bid and ask price of LUNC on top of the standard 1%.
- Germany: crypto transfers and related fees for German residents are processed and charged by Tangany GmbH.
What Is the eToro Crypto Wallet, and What Does It Cost?
The eToro crypto wallet (eToro Money crypto wallet) is a separate custodial app for sending, receiving and holding supported coins. Opening it and sending or receiving are free of eToro fees; moving coins in from the trading platform costs 2%, minimum $1, maximum $100.
The key numbers, from eToro’s wallet fee page and crypto transfer page as of October 2026:
- Fees: wallet open/close free; send/receive free apart from the blockchain fee; transfers in from external wallets carry no eToro fee.
- Limits: $50,000 per transaction and $200,000 per day.
- Selling for fiat in the wallet: 1% for Silver, 0.8% for Gold and Platinum, 0.6% for Platinum+ and Diamond.
- Transfer rules: only long positions backed by real crypto can move; CFDs and coins held through CopyTrader or Smart Portfolios cannot. The transfer is one-way, so coins sent to the wallet cannot go back to the trading platform.
- Provider: the wallet fee page names etoroX Limited, incorporated in Gibraltar and licensed by the Gibraltar Financial Services Commission (licence FSC1333B), as the wallet provider.
Coins in the wallet do not earn eToro staking rewards. For setup, security settings and a step-by-step send guide, learn more about safely storing and managing your digital assets with our comprehensive guide on the eToro Crypto Wallet.
How Does eToro Crypto Custody Work?
eToro holds your crypto for you: it says it uses a combination of cold and hot storage with regulated custody providers, and the exact mix varies by jurisdiction. Custody of real crypto is free, but you do not control the private keys.
According to the FAQ on eToro’s crypto page, accounts are protected with two-factor authentication and client funds are segregated where regulations require it. In the EU, custody and administration of crypto-assets is one of the 7 services for which eToro (Europe) Ltd is authorised under MiCA, according to the ESMA interim MiCA register.
Custodial does not mean insured like a bank deposit. eToro itself notes that in most jurisdictions cryptoassets are not covered by deposit-insurance or investor-compensation schemes. If you want your own keys, the route is: transfer an eligible coin to the eToro Money crypto wallet, then send it to a wallet you control.
Whatever you hold, account security is mostly in your hands:
- Use a strong, unique password for eToro.
- Enable two-factor authentication.
- Don’t share account access with anyone, including family.
- Be wary of phishing emails and look-alike links.
How Does eToro Staking Work?
eToro staking pays monthly rewards on 9 coins (ADA, SOL, ETH, NEAR, POL, TRX, DOT, SUI, ATOM) held as real crypto on the trading platform. EU users must opt in, and you keep 45% to 90% of the yield depending on your Club tier.
Staking lets holders of proof-of-stake coins earn more of the same coin for helping secure the network. eToro handles the staking process and passes on a share of the rewards. The details below come from eToro’s staking page, checked on 2 October 2026:
- Opt-in: clients of eToro (Europe) Ltd must actively opt in under MiCA (Settings > Trading > Crypto Staking Program). Staking is on by default in the UK, Australia, the UAE and Seychelles. ETH requires a separate opt-in everywhere.
- Not available: eToro staking is not offered in Germany or the US.
- Exclusions: CFD positions, short positions and coins held in the eToro crypto wallet do not earn staking rewards. For leveraged positions, only the part bought with your own money is eligible.
- Intro days: rewards begin on day 8 of holding for ATOM, DOT, NEAR, POL, TRX, SOL and SUI, on day 10 for ADA, and dynamically for ETH.
- Payout: paid in the same coin, within 14 days after the end of each month; a reward must be worth at least $1.
Table 4: Share of the staking yield you receive by eToro Club tier (as of October 2026)
| Club tier | Share of staking yield you keep |
|---|---|
| Non-Club (Bronze) | 45% |
| Silver | 55% |
| Gold | 65% |
| Platinum | 75% |
| Platinum+ | 85% |
| Diamond | 90% |
eToro does not publish fixed per-coin rates on its staking page; the monthly yield is calculated from the rewards actually received. Its crypto page advertises “up to 12% APY”, but rewards are not guaranteed and depend on the network. Staking also carries risks eToro lists itself, including liquidity, slashing and protocol risk. Staking rewards are generally treated as taxable income in many countries; check your local rules.
Can You Copy Crypto Traders on eToro?
Yes. Where available, eToro CopyTrader mirrors the crypto trades of other eToro investors in real time, with a $200 minimum per copied trader. Copying itself is free, but each copied crypto position pays the standard 1% fee at open and at close.
Before copying, you can review a trader’s track record, risk score and current portfolio, according to eToro’s crypto page. Every eToro account also includes a $100,000 virtual portfolio for practice. Past performance does not predict future results. Our crypto copy trading guide covers how to pick traders and size your copies.
Other research tools on eToro include price charts with technical indicators, a news and community feed on each asset page, and the eToro Academy guides and courses. They are useful for context, but they are not investment advice.
Is eToro Regulated for Crypto in the EU?
Yes. eToro (Europe) Ltd is in ESMA’s interim MiCA register, authorised by CySEC (Cyprus) on 16 January 2025 for 7 crypto-asset services and passported to 30 EEA states, as checked on 2 October 2026.
eToro — checked on 2 October 2026: eToro (Europe) Ltd (LEI 213800GIFQMSV7HROS23), competent authority CySEC (Cyprus), MiCA authorisation date 16 January 2025, 7 services (custody and administration of crypto-assets, exchange of crypto-assets for funds, execution of orders, reception and transmission of orders, advice, portfolio management, transfer services), passported to 30 states: AT BE BG CY CZ DE DK EE EL ES FI FR HR HU IE IS IT LI LT LU LV MT NL NO PL PT RO SE SI SK, per the ESMA interim MiCA register (CASPS.csv, file dated 30 September 2026).
MiCA (Regulation (EU) 2023/1114) authorisation covers eToro’s crypto-asset services in the EU. It does not make crypto prices safer, and CFDs remain derivatives regulated under separate rules. eToro serves non-EU clients through other group entities, so check which entity appears in your account terms.
Who Is It For, and Who Should Avoid It?
eToro crypto is not a good fit if you trade large volumes below Platinum tier (flat 1% each way), want most coins in self-custody (40 transferable assets on 2 October 2026, 2% per transfer), or live in Germany or the US and want eToro staking.
Best for beginners who want real crypto and copy trading in one EU-regulated account: non-leveraged buys are real coins with free custody, CopyTrader starts at $200 per trader, and eToro (Europe) Ltd is MiCA-authorised by CySEC.
It also suits long-term holders of stakeable coins who are happy to let eToro handle staking, and investors who want crypto alongside stocks and ETFs. Active traders who mostly want leverage should note that every leveraged or short crypto trade is a CFD with overnight fees, and that new users in Spain cannot trade CFDs at all.
What Are the Pros and Cons of eToro Crypto?
eToro’s main strengths for crypto are real coin ownership, free custody, staking on 9 coins and CopyTrader; its main drawbacks are a 1% fee each way for most members, a 2% wallet transfer fee and no staking in Germany or the US.
Pros of investing in crypto on eToro:
- More than 150 cryptoassets, including Bitcoin, Ethereum, Solana, XRP and Cardano
- Non-leveraged buys are real crypto with no custody or overnight fee
- Staking rewards on 9 coins, up to 90% of the yield for Diamond members
- CopyTrader for crypto from $200 per trader, with a $100,000 demo account
- MiCA-authorised EU entity, eToro (Europe) Ltd
- Fees shown on the trade ticket before you confirm
Cons to acknowledge:
- 1% at open and 1% at close for Bronze, Silver and Gold, with no volume discount below Platinum
- Copied crypto never gets the lower Club rates
- 2% fee (minimum $1, maximum $100) to move coins to the wallet, and the transfer is one-way
- Leveraged and short positions are CFDs with overnight fees and forced-liquidation risk
- No staking in Germany or the US, and EU users must opt in
- Custodial: you do not hold the private keys on the trading platform
Overall, eToro is a solid, regulated starting point for mainstream crypto investors, especially those who also want stocks and copy trading. Frequent, high-volume crypto traders will usually find cheaper per-trade pricing elsewhere unless they reach the higher Club tiers.
How Are eToro Crypto Gains Taxed?
eToro does not give tax advice. In most countries, profits from selling crypto and staking rewards are taxable, and from 1 January 2026 EU crypto-asset service providers must collect and report user transaction data to tax authorities under DAC8.
The EU’s DAC8 directive, described on the European Commission’s DAC8 page, was adopted on 17 October 2023 and applies from 1 January 2026. Reporting crypto-asset service providers collect transaction information on their users and send it to their national tax authority in the following year; for non-residents, the first exchange between EU tax authorities, covering 2026, takes place by 30 September 2027.
What this means in practice:
- Selling crypto for more than you paid usually creates a taxable gain; selling at a loss may create a deductible loss, depending on your country.
- Staking rewards are often treated as income when received and may be taxed again when sold.
- Fees (the 1% at open and close) can often be included in your cost basis or deducted; check local rules.
- Keep records of every buy, sell, transfer and staking reward, including dates and USD values. eToro account statements are a starting point; crypto tax software can import them.
Rules differ widely between countries, so speak to a qualified tax adviser for your situation.
Is eToro Good for Crypto?
eToro is a good choice for crypto if you value simplicity, regulation and copy trading over the lowest per-trade cost. Real coin ownership, free custody and staking make it suitable for long-term holders; the 1% fee each way makes it expensive for frequent traders below Platinum tier.
The crypto market keeps maturing, with regulated options such as MiCA-authorised brokers making it easier to invest safely. The basics stay the same: diversify, avoid leverage you do not understand, and ignore short-term noise.

Figures we could not verify on a primary source that day, such as per-coin staking rates, were left out. This is not financial or tax advice.
